Nestled in the heart of Brooklyn, Chikurin is a delightful Japanese restaurant and meal delivery service that has won over locals with its authentic flavors and welcoming atmosphere. Specializing in traditional Japanese cuisine, Chikurin offers a carefully curated menu that caters both to sushi lovers and those seeking hearty, comforting dishes.
The culinary experience here is vivid and rich, starting with their expertly crafted Chicken Yakitori Bento Box, a perfect harmony of smoky, tender chicken skewers paired with perfectly steamed rice and savory sides. Sushi aficionados will appreciate the expansive assortment, from the classic California Roll and vibrant Spicy Yellowtail Roll to the elegant Sashimi Deluxe and the creative Hot Tail Roll. Each bite bursts with freshness and precision—whether it's the delicate texture of tuna in the Tuna Tartare or the crisp, cool notes of Avocado Salad.
For noodle lovers, Chikurin’s hot pot and ramen options are a comforting embrace on chilly days. The Pork Ramen with its rich pork-flavored broth and the fiery Tomyam Seafood Udon Soup, a spicy hot and sour delight accented by thick noodles, are highlights that showcase the depth and complexity of their kitchen’s mastery. The ubiquitous Tempura Udon adds a satisfying crunch to every slurp with shrimp and vegetable tempura, perfectly cooked and light.
Teriyaki aficionados will find a thoughtful selection, including succulent Salmon Teriyaki, juicy Jumbo Shrimp, and tender Beef Pan Fried Noodles glazed in a savory sauce that complements the vibrant stir-fried vegetables. For those seeking lighter fare or vegetarian options, the Tofu Teriyaki and Vegetable Teriyaki are just as soul-satisfying.
The atmosphere at Chikurin is as inviting as its menu, characterized by a cozy, intimate setting often bathed in soothing green decor that offers a tranquil escape from the bustle of Brooklyn. Whether dining indoors or opting for takeout, the friendly and efficient staff create a consistent experience that keeps guests coming back. Regular patrons affectionately mention the warm hospitality and genuine care from the team, which adds a personal touch to every meal.
Reviewers often highlight the freshness of Chikurin's dishes—"food was fresh, hot and beautifully presented," says Angelica Santiago, and it’s easy to see why. Another loyal diner, Rachel V, has cherished this spot for over a decade, praising the delicious food and familiar service that feels like a comforting reunion each visit. The family-friendly environment also receives nods, with Victoria appreciating the pleasant atmosphere and superb lunch specials like the classic Chicken Katsu Bento Box.
Beyond the plate, Chikurin offers a modest but well-chosen beverage menu featuring crisp Sapporo Beer and sweet Plum Wine, ideally complementing the bold flavors of the menu. Fresh juices including cranberry, orange, and pineapple round out the drink options, ensuring there’s something to refresh every palate.
Whether you’re craving fresh sushi, a rich ramen bowl, or a traditional teriyaki plate, Chikurin is a Brooklyn gem where authenticity meets comfort. Its combination of exquisite food, attentive service, and welcoming ambiance make it a steadfast favorite for locals and visitors alike looking for a genuine taste of Japan without leaving the city.
My favorite go to for sushi! Indoor or takeout. I've been coming to Chikurin for like a decade now I think. Since I was in high school. A friend of mine lives near here so we always ate here for the lunch special. Anyway, I haven't been back for maybe a year or two, and recently visited this year. The location moved! It is now on a corner instead. Very green decor. Same waiter! Food is delicious as always. Fresh and hot, with great flavor and presentation. Portions are great. The bento dinner is massive and I couldn't finish it all in one sitting. Really good value so I highly recommend. Overall, the restaurant has a fresh new aesthetic, new location, but same great taste and service. Show them some love and support by either dining in or taking out. They offer indoor dining as well as outdoor seating!! This is my go to sushi place, my one and only gripe is the parking situation! (Not their fault though-- I'm just warning my fellow drivers out there) Bath Beach is terrible for drivers. You've got to have eyes like a hawk to catch parking spots as they get taken up rather quick. Try the side streets or deal with the meters.
honestly only writing a review because every single time i go, i have a genuinely pleasant experience. the food (chicken katsu bento box lunch special) is always superb, the service is very friendly and the environment is quite nice (outside of school hours cuz kids walking by are loud) but other than that its great.
Been living in Brooklyn for over 25 years and finally got a chance to try ChikurinPlace is very cozy, staff ladies are very efficient and friendly. Food was all tasty! My family liked how the wasabi wasn't too spicy, fries cheesecake was pretty good. Will come again
All this sushi for 25 dollars! Has been our go to sushi spot for a hot minute and staff’s pretty nice !!
The food was fresh, hot and beautifully presented. Tasted as good as it looked. Quite small but cozy, intimate setting, bathroom available and clean. Service was a bit stale at first but eventually warmed up and by the end was on point. Went from what I thought would be a one star review, to a four star. They deserved it. Shashimi was fresh and my guy was pleasantly surprised. Would recommend
Excellent neighborhood sushi joint. The sushi is always fresh. Priced fairly for the area. Love to order the sashimi by piece. The rolls are sometimes a bit inconsistent (sometimes it's bigger and sometimes it's smaller. Maybe changed chef or trainee training). Overall, good neighborhood sushi!
I’ve had sushi all over the world, and this is my family’s neighborhood favorite affordable sushi spot that has variety while remaining fresh, and the waiters are the loveliest ladies ever. Modest exterior and interior, but don’t be fooled, it’s good. We particularly love the raw oysters here - medium sized, mild, a little sweet. Salmon, yellowtail, tuna, “white tuna”, mackerel are all great. Pass on the raw scallop. Garlic mussels were on the salty side, and the beef was good.
